TRAINING

There are born leaders but these are relative few. It is possible, however, to learn the habits and qualities which will in time make capable managers. Leadership is something which can be learnt and considerably improved upon by studying and learning from the experience of others and by following certain practices.Skill in leadership is normally something that does not come by itselt it can be learnt.

Leave nothing to change

A manager must not leave matters to change. He should be in a position to guide events so that things turn out the way he wants them to happen. He must always be on the look out for this.

Development of people.

The most important task of a manager is to develop people. Not only will this make his own job easier, but he will have people ready to take over from him when there is an opportunity for promotion to a higher post.

Measure everything

A basic element in the work of a manager is that of measurement. Measurements should be fixed for the work of everyone and then their actual work output should be checked with the work alloted.

Check for implementation

It is one thing to have a policy laid down on paper but it is an entirely diffferent thing to ensure that the policies are carried out. For example, many organizations have executive development schemes, but very few of their senior executive get down to details and check whether their men are really being developed.
